Abstract

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the Taiwanese desktop PC industry. The report includes desktop PC shipment volume, value, ASP, shipment by tier and maker, product mix analysis, as well as breakdowns by customer, shipment destination, and assembly location. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with desktop PC makers. The report finds that the second-quarter desktop PC shipments were uphold by inventory replenishment and advanced shipments in anticipation of peak-season demand in the third quarter. Taiwanese makers have further gained in global shipment share due to concentration of market share on major branded vendors. It is projected that, in the third quarter of 2009, the global desktop PC shipment volume will be contingent on the peak-season effect as well as the launch of Windows 7 operating system. Also, after relatively weak shipment growth in July and August, third-quarter shipment volume is expected to peak in September.
